PHILOSOPHICAL REFLECTIONS ON THE NATURE OF ENDOGENOUS KNOWLEDGE IN RWANDA
Written by Christoffel den Biggelaar
Abstract
Articles related to endogenous knowledge1 normally deal with particular, mostly technical aspects of this knowledge as if it has no philosophical basis. However, it is imperative to have an understanding of its philosophical basis to understand and validate this knowledge. In this article, a brief introduction of Rwandan philosophy as it relates to knowledge is given, followed by its application in interpreting discussions with farmers on the topics of knowledge, its individuality, and gender specificity, using agroforestry knowledge as a specific example.
